The Bramley Sunnyside Infant School, “All Stars Team.” The year 2 children went to Flanderwell School for KS1 Athletics and took part in the javelin, sprint, standing long jump and relay. Leanne got a 1st place in the girl’s javelin and Emily got a 1st place in the girls sprint race. Well done everyone, you were all amazing.

Today we have been practising our long jump with Mr Walker from Wickersley School. The longest jumpers were:
Leanne from Class 6 who jumped 1.37m
Ella from Class 8 who jumped 1.34m
Alex from Class 10 who jumped 1.30m
Year 2 children have been very lucky this week to have one of our wonderful parents come into school to talk about knights. We learnt about what knights wear, what they ate and the armour they wore to fight. We got to try on some of the armour and clothes and also learnt how to do the bill drill. Click here to see more photographs.
We have also been learning some PE skills from Mr Walker from Wickersley School and Sports College.
In Literacy we have been writing some poetry, using similes and alliteration. In Science we have done an investigation into growing plants in food colouring.
We have also created some fabric work using blanket stitch and cross stitch.
We opened the Bug Mansion before half term and we have been checking for residents. We found some spiders and snails.
As part of our topic’ Go Wild’ we took part in a drumming workshop. Take a look at the photos in our Gallery.
We learnt about rhythm and beats and produced a piece of music at the end with drums, tamborim and ego bells. We also used body percussion.
In PE we have been practising our hockey skills with Miss Sutton from Wickersley School.
We have been making clay space pets. This is Smidge.
We have also been doing lots of home learning about space.
We are really excited about our spring topic which is called “To Infinity and Beyond!” Our topic begins with a Keeping Fit and Healthy themed fortnight during which we will learn about and get involved in sports activities. Our literacy focus will be dictionary work and alphabetical order and be ‘Narrative’ based on stories by an author called Simon Bartram. In science we will learn about materials and their properties and why materials are suitable for their purposes. In History we will learn about the first moon landing and Neil Armstrong. In Design Technology the children will have lots of opportunities to design, make and construct and we will have an inter class Space Race.
We are so busy practising our Christmas performance at the minute.
We have been busy making Christmas cards, calendars and even clay pieces just for you!
We cannot wait to show you 😉
