Newsletter 4 – Spring Term 26th January
Happy Home Learning
We have enjoyed looking at the number 2. We know that there are two in a pair. Can you work together to put things into pairs using socks, shoes or any everyday items that you can find.
Foundation Stage 2
Literacy – In literacy this week we have been learning about the Chinese New Year. In your homework book can you draw a Chinese Dragon and label the different parts of its body.
Number – In number we have been making repeating pattern necklaces using 2 and 3 colours. In your homework book can you draw a repeating pattern using colours or shapes?
Year 1
Reading – We would like you to read your reading books. Can you find and make a list of verbs with a past tense ‘ed ending ?
Spellings – was, were, he, she, once, flew, saw, looked, rested, swooped
Maths – Choose a number from 11 up to 19 e.g 15
Then, split the number into 2 parts? You could use straws to make a bundle of 10 and single straws for 5.
You could record it like this 15 (whole number)

(a ten) 10 5 (five ones)

Extra challenge – Can you take one of the parts away? 15 – 5 = 10 15 – 10 = 5
Year 2
Spellings – try, dry, cry, fly, July. What could the mystery spellings be?
Maths – Can you practise telling the time on an analogue clock?
What time is it when you go to school?
What time is it when you have tea?
What time is it when you go to bed? etc.
Topic – Our home learning displays are looking sparse. Can you create your own under the sea creature and explain how it survives in its habitat?
30 Hours Childcare
From September 2017 some 3 & 4 year olds will be eligible for 30 hours free childcare per week. Attached is an information sheet for your attention.
Class of the Week – 17th to 20th January 2017
Wow! The children in Class 9 have done it again! Having achieved an attendance level of 100% for the second week in a row, they are ‘Class of the Week’.
Head Lice
Over the past few weeks we have sent out text messages informing parents that there have been cases of head lice reported in school. Head lice are a recurring problem in school and can be frustrating for any parent and child. Please be vigilant and check your child’s hair regularly and treat where necessary.
Authority Approved Free School Meals
Even though all infant school children are provided with a free school meal there are other free activities that your child may be entitled to. Please take time to read the attached sheet to see if you qualify. Thank you
Falconry UK Visit – Year 1
The staff that visited the Year 1 children this week in connection with their topic, said that they have visited many Year 1 children in schools throughout England, Scotland and Wales but nowhere had they come across children so knowledgeable and prepared for the visit. They were very impressed with their subject knowledge but also the questions the children asked them. We are all very proud of the children and the way which they represented our school.
Car Parking
We would remind parents and carers who collect children from school using their car to be considerate when parking. Recent photographic evidence has shown that cars have parked on the zigzag lines, blocked exits required for emergency access vehicles and driveways of local residents. The police have been notified and will issue immediate fines to any cars parked illegally.
Sainsbury’s Vouchers
We are collecting Sainsbury’s vouchers which can be posted in the box on the corridor outside main reception. Thank you

Authority approved free school Meals

Did you know that if you are a family in receipt of certain benefits you may be entitled to claim free school meals for your child?
This would also mean your child may be eligible to access a wide range of activities free of charge or at a substantially reduced rate (ie. after school clubs, extended services holiday clubs, school visits etc.)

In addition, for every child whose award for free school meals has been successful, the school receives an additional payment into the school budget from the government Pupil Premium Fund. This funding will impact directly on the support and educational experiences we can provide.

Applying couldn’t be easier! You can apply online at www.rotherham.gov.uk or log onto our school website at www.bramleysunnysideinfant.co.uk and follow the link on the ‘Information for Parents’ page. Apply now and if you meet the criteria below, your claim could be in place within hours.
