Newsletter 6 – Spring Term 18th February 2016

Happy Home Learning
Our letter of the week is ‘S’. How many things can you find beginning with ‘S’? Look around your house and out and about. What names can you think of that begin with ‘S’?
Foundation 2 Homework
This week in literacy we have been learning about pirates. We have read ‘Pirates love Underpants’ and made our own pirate profiles. We thought about our pirate names and special pirate skills. Please use your imagination to make up your own pirate stories, and draw your favourite pirate character in your homework book.
In maths we have been looking at sharing. We have shared gold treasure between pirates and practised making it equal. Can you think about how many ways you could share 10 objects into 2 groups? Remember pirates love dried pasta, maybe you could use this to help!
Year 1 Homework
Literacy – Can you research Tim Peak and the International Space Station? Write 4 interesting questions you would want to ask him.
Maths – Can you practise forming numbers 1 – 20 correctly? Make sure they start and finish in the correct place.
Year 2 Homework
Maths – This week we have been learning to use the < (less than) and > (greater than) symbols. Choose two 2-digit numbers and write some less than and more than number sentences. E.g. 15 < 56 34 > 23
Literacy – We have been learning to use dialogue verbs in our writing which show the reader how something is said e.g. whispered, growled, snorted, asked, pleaded. We are encouraging the children to use these in their writing instead of ‘said’.
Can the children identify dialogue verbs in their reading books and use the words they find in their own speech sentences.
Spellings – said, whispered, trolls, asked, growled, grunted, snorted
Topic – We would like the children to go on a fact finding mission. What can you find out about recycling? What do you recycle at home?
Easter Bonnet Parade
During the last week of term we will be holding an Easter Bonnet parade and we would love all the children to take part. Children can make their own bonnet from bits of old cloth or paper and there will be a prize for the lucky winners in each class.
Class of the Week – 1st to 5th February
We are very proud of the children in Class 6 who are Class of the Week having achieved an attendance level of 100%.

Wickersley Library are running a ‘Story Stop’ club each Thursday between 3.30pm & 4.30pm. Children aged 5-11 are welcome to get involved and enjoy super stories and cracking crafts.
