I am Mrs Goulding and I lead Religious Education in school. I have always been passionate about promoting awe and wonder in our children through the exploration of the world we live in and the different communities we live amongst. I love taking our collective worship assemblies where our children begin to learn about the stories that Jewish and Christian people love to tell.

RE at Bramley Sunnyside Infant School
At Bramley Sunnyside Infant School our curriculum is taken from the SACRE Agreed Syllabus 2022. In line with this, we aim to challenge children to learn about Christianity and Judaism (and which includes some teaching about Islam). We use big questions to open up learning and plan for children to gain and apply a rich knowledge of two religions in each year group.
Our curriculum plans are sequenced to build up knowledge of the Christian, Jewish and Muslim faith are put into action in weekly R.E. lessons which encourage children to begin to consider their own thoughts and ideas and place high value on children’s self-expression.
We aim to give our children learning opportunities in R.E. that include using art, music, drama and dance as well as through discussion and more formal writing and recording opportunities. We aim to enable all pupils to visit at least one local holy building which is one of the ways in which we challenge them to widen horizons and develop attitudes of respect through encountering diversity.
In EYFS children encounter religions and world views through exploring special people and objects and by visiting a place of worship. They listen to and talk about religious stories and are introduced to new vocabulary to help them explore beliefs, practices and forms of expression. They can ask questions and reflect on their own experiences and feelings and use their imagination and curiosity to develop a wonder at the natural world in which they live.
In KS1 the curriculum enables children to develop their knowledge and understanding of religions and world views by finding out about simple examples of religion that are drawn from local, national and global contexts. They learn subject specific vocabulary and raise questions and begin to express their own views in response to what they have learned through topics such as ‘Who am I? Myself and my communities’, ‘What are the ‘signs of belonging’ for Christians and Jewish people?’ and ‘What stories do Christians, Muslims and Jews tell about the beginning of the world?’
