Newsletter 10 – Autumn Term 2015 – 12th November 2015
Happy Home Learning – FS1
Can you sing ‘When Goldilocks went to the house of the bears’ to your family?
Foundation Stage 2 Homework
Literacy – This week we have been reading the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. The Giant came to visit our classrooms and left his huge muddy footprints – you may have seen them on Monday morning. We also found a map that the Giant had left, showing us the way to his beanstalk. We will be following this on Friday! Please have a go at writing your own map showing the way to your favourite place – the bakers, the park or Grandmas house and label it along the way e.g. shop, park.
Maths – We have been learning all about measures. Have a go at measuring everyone who lives in your house. Who is the tallest? Who is the shortest?
Year 1 Homework
Literacy – Can you find out three bird facts that will amaze your teachers? Something we haven’t talked about yet!
Numeracy – In numeracy we have been practising the ‘count on’ method for addition where we ‘hold’ the first number in our heads and count on the rest.
9 + 3 = 12 Hold 9 in your head and count 10, 11, 12. Practise this method using different sums.
Year 2 Homework
Literacy – Can you find a poem in a book or online and then write it in your homework book? Be a detective and see if you can find any words that rhyme and underline them. Are there any adjectives (describing words) in your poem? If so, circle them. Is there any alliteration? Remember, that means where words start with the same letter, for example, five flipping fish. If so, highlight them.
Maths – Write down pairs of 2 digit numbers. Put them in order from smallest to largest. Can you find a number in between these two numbers? Add your two numbers together using partitioning as a strategy. Can you explain what this means to your grown up?
Science – Can you bake something like jam tarts with a grown up? When you have finished, describe how the ingredients have changed? What caused the ingredients to change?
FS2 Woodland Walk
The children in Foundation Stage 2 will be going on a woodland walk tomorrow. Please remember that a warm coat and wellies are required.
Flu Immunisation
As you are aware the Immunisation Team will be in school on Friday 11th December to administer the Flu vaccination to Year 1 & Year 2 children. If you have not returned the consent form and you would like your child to be immunised please do so as soon as possible.
Children in Need
As in previous years we will be supporting Children in Need by having a non-uniform day which will take place tomorrow. There is no special theme but we would ask that sensible attire be worn. (i.e. no high heels). There will be a donation box in each classroom should you wish to make a contribution. Thank you
Email System
You will be aware that the school email system is now active and Newsletters and Topic Letters have been sent over the past week. Please inform school if you have not received them or have had difficulty opening the attached files. If you have still not provided your email address, please give your details to the office staff who will be glad to add you to the system. Alternatively, hard copies are available on request.
Book of Remembrance
The Book of Remembrance for Miss Dawson is still available from 8.30am – 9.30am or 2.45pm – 3.45pm until Thursday 26th November should you wish to enter your messages of support for the family.
Tributes
Miss Dawson’s family wish to express their gratitude for the many floral tributes and messages left at the school gates and within the grounds. From today we will start to take down the tributes. The messages will be saved to give to Miss Dawson’s family alongside the Books of Remembrance. The flowers will be added to the school allotment in order for them to help future flowers to bloom for years to come. One of our parents has kindly pressed a selection of petals from the flowers to decorate the pages of the Books of Remembrance. We would wish to offer you our heartfelt thanks for your understanding of the exceptional school closure yesterday. It allowed all of us to pay our respects and attend the funeral of a much loved colleague. We are all now looking forward to the joy that the Christmas Season will bring to us and have started work on our Nativity Plays which we know you will thoroughly enjoy.
