Newsletter 5 Spring Term – 8th February 2018

Happy Home Learning
The children will be bringing home their name cards to practise writing their name over the half term holiday. We have been practising in school, starting on our green spot and finishing on our red spot. It is really important to encourage the correct letter formation whilst writing their name.

FS2 Homework
This week in literacy Barnaby Bear has been in China! We have learned about the story of Chinese New Year. Can you write a list of the animals who took part in the race? See if you can remember who won the race and tell your grown up about how he won!

In maths we have been practising finding one less than a given number by taking one away and counting how many we have left. Please practise singing lots of ‘1 less’ songs such as 5 little men in a flying saucer, 5 currant buns and 5 little ducks.

Please note that after half term our PE lessons will continue to be on a Wednesday, and weather permitting will take place outdoors. Children will need suitable outdoor kit including trainers/pumps. Thank you.

Year 1 Homework
Reading – Please read your reading books
Spellings – come, some, will, be, you, first, girl, third, bird, shirt
Maths – This week we have been halving shapes. Can you halve a shape and tell the halving story?
e.g First I had one whole square…..I cut/split it into two equal parts……now I have two halves. They are equal/the same.
Did you find more than one way to halve any of the shapes?
Year 2 Homework
Literacy – After Pancake Day, write a set of instructions on how to make pancakes including your favourite fillings.
Maths – Can you write the multiplication number sentence for the following division problems?

E.g. 10 ÷ 2 = 5 2 x 5 = 10
15 ÷ 5 = 25 ÷ 5 = 14 ÷ 2 =
20 ÷ 10 = 35 ÷ 5 = 20 ÷ 5 =
12 ÷ 2 = 50 ÷ 10 = 18 ÷ 2 =

Spellings – word, work, worth, worm, world
What could the mystery spelling be? What other words are pronounced with the ‘er’ sound but are spelt with ‘or’?

Foundations Stage 1 Closure
Please note that on the day of the visits to Yorkshire Wildlife Park, part time children should not attend school on the day they are NOT on the visit. Details as follows:-

FS 1 will be closed to PM session children on Tuesday 27th February due to the educational visit.
FS 1 will be closed to AM session children on Wednesday 28th February due to the educational visit.
30 hours children should attend as normal on Wednesday 28th February.

Treasure Box
As you are we have a ‘Treasure Box’ in school. When a child reads at home 3 times during a week, they receive a stamp. Once they have 5 stamps in their diary they can take a small gift from the treasure box. The gifts include small inexpensive items such as pencils, crayons, hair clips and various small toys. Usually, the gifts are donated, however, because so many of our children are super readers we have had to buy supplies to keep the box filled with treasure. Also, our main contributor, Ravenfield Post Office has now closed. Therefore, we are asking for any donations of unwanted items which could be used (e.g. McDonalds Happy Meal toys, unwanted gifts from comics etc.) so that we can keep the treasure box overflowing. Any donations should be brought to the school office. Thank you
