Newsletter 6 – Autumn Term 13th October 2016
Happy Home Learning
This week the children have enjoyed learning the rhyme 5 little ducks. Please enjoy singing the rhyme together at home.
Foundation Stage 2
This week we have been learning some new ‘dangerous words’. These are words that can’t be sounded out! Can you practise writing these words in your homework book? The words we have learned so far are: I, the, no and go.
In maths we have been estimating. Can you gather objects (spoons/socks/teddies etc) and estimate how many there are. Remember to count them afterwards to check your estimation!
Year 1
Reading – Please read your reading book. Who are the characters in the story? What do you like about the story?
Spellings – We would like you to spell the common exception words
my, come, to. Also can you spell words with an ‘ar’ sound? e.g. card, start, farm, dark. See how many you can think of and write them in your homework book.
Maths – Can you find 10 objects? How many ways can you find to make ten? (Add 2 numbers) Can you draw and write the ways you find? Remember accurate number formation!
Year 2
Spellings – dragon, fire, breathe, smoke, eating, scales
Maths – We would like you to write as many subtraction facts within 10 and then 20 as you can. E.g. 5 + 4 = 9 13 + 4 = 17.
Literacy and topic – Please make an item of clothing from paper with your child that they can wear at the fashion show on Friday 21st October at 2.30pm.
We will be selling tickets at 50p in classrooms next week if you would like to attend.
Dinner Menu 1st – 4th November
There will be a special themed menu prepared by the cook for the first week back after the half term holiday. Further details of this will be issued before school finishes on Friday 21st October.
Lost Property
Once again, there are numerous items of clothing, lunch boxes and water bottles hiding in lost property. Please come along and take the time to make sure that none of the items belong to your little one. Anything remaining in lost property at the end of half term will be taken to recycling.
Operation Encompass
I would like to inform you of a new project that is being run across Rotherham. It is called Operation encompass.
Operation Encompass has been designed to provide early reporting on any domestic violence incidents that occur outside of school and might have an impact on a child in school. School will be informed of any domestic violence that has happened overnight. The designated member of the school staff will use the information that has been shared, in confidence, while ensuring that the school is able to make provision for possible difficulties experienced by children, or their families, who have been involved in or witnessed a domestic violence incident.
We are keen to offer the best support possible for our pupils and we believe this is going to be extremely beneficial for all those involved.
School and Family Photos
Please remember to sign up for an appointment time at the family photo session. Also if you would like siblings in the infant school to have their photographs taken together, please inform the office staff.
Class of the Week
Congratulations to the children in Class 9 who are Class of the Week with an overall attendance level of 99.3%.
