Newsletter 6 Spring Term – 22nd February 2018

Happy Home Learning
This week we have been learning the number rhyme 5 Little Tigers. Please enjoy singing the rhyme together at home; you could also make 5 tiger puppets to use while you’re singing. We have also been learning our number of the week ‘5’ and the letter sound ‘i’.

FS2 Homework
Literacy – We have been researching the Yorkshire Wildlife Park using the internet. Please go online and find out about your favourite animal. Draw a picture of the animal of your choosing and write a simple sentence about them to share at school.
Numeracy – We have been consolidating our ability to count appropriately and carefully. Please practise counting with a wide range of objects and recording the total. Remember to form numbers correctly – use the number snakes in your home school diary to support.

Year 1 Homework
Reading – Please read your reading books. Can you find any contractions in your book? A contraction is a word that is made up of two separate words that are pushed together. The apostrophe represents the letters that are omitted e.g. I’m = I am, Can’t = Can not
Spellings – I’ll, I’m, can’t, was, were, said, baby, bear, book, like, said
Maths – We have been using equipment to investigate what makes 20. You could use straws and record the 2 parts that make 20 like this:-

20

19 1

Remember when you count a ‘teen’ number we say ten and how many more.

Year 2 Homework
Maths – Play hit the button on topmarks, selecting ‘times tables’ or ‘division facts’. Use your knowledge of the multiples of 2s, 5s and 10s to help you.
Literacy – In readiness for our learning about pirates, can you research and write the pirate code using commands?
Spellings – treasure, television, usual, unusual, pleasure

Class of the Week – 5th February to 9th February
Congratulations to the children in Class 5 who attained an attendance level of 97.4% and are ‘Class of the Week’.

Reading Champions
Reading is a vital skill which unlocks all areas of the curriculum. We encourage the children to read regularly and as you are aware have reading incentives in place. We would like to give all our parents and carers the opportunity to be involved in helping the children to develop their reading skills further and invite anyone who might be interested, to become a Reading Champion. If you can spare half an hour of your day (Foundation Stage 2 from 9am to 9.30pm or Years 1 & 2 from 2.30pm to 3pm) reading one to one with a child, we would be thrilled to allocate you with a suitable time slot. Please speak to your child’s class teacher who will be happy to give you further information or confirm a time slot. Thank you

Foundation Visit to Yorkshire Wildlife Park
Please remember to return the consent slip even if you have made an online payment. Any outstanding payments should be made straightaway. Could all children arrive on time, wearing sensible outdoor clothing? i.e warm coat, hat, gloves and sturdy shoes.
