We welcome you back after the short half term break and look forward to a new term of learning. The Christmas half term is always exciting with lots of activities to look forward to and we thank you for your continued support over the coming weeks.
Foundation Stage 1 Happy Home Learning
This week we have been learning to recognise and write our name. Please encourage your child to participate in writing their names/letters from their name with various materials i.e. shaving foam, salt, chalks, large pens and paper. Also could you encourage your child to use a correct pencil grip when using pencils and pens, as we discussed at the Stay & Play Sessions.
Foundation 2 Homework
Literacy – Please talk to your child about bonfire night e.g. their senses (smells, sounds) and how to keep safe. Practise writing firework sounds. Also help your child to read the following words, thin, zip, chop, chin, quit & king by sounding each letter and then blending them together. The sounds for this week are th, z, ch, q, x & ng, please use the diaries to practise the rhymes with your child.
Numeracy – We have been learning about repeating patterns. Please practise making repeating patterns with your child using colours, shapes or even people. How many can you make? Take some photos and stick them in your book.
Year 1 Homework
Literacy – Can you write a list of adjectives to describe fireworks? Please practise the tricky words: are, some, they.
Maths – Can you find the following 3D shapes whilst you are out and about? Sphere, cylinder, cuboid, cube, cone & pyramid, then describe them to your grown up.
Year 2 Homework
Maths – Have fun this week making homemade pizzas. Can you cut them in ½ or ¼?
Try to add different toppings onto each ¼. Happy cooking!
Literacy – Design/make your own firework. Give it a name, a sound and a pattern of colour.
Spellings – freezing, sparkling, frosting, tingling, crunching, dancing
Phonics – Can you work on the sounds in your home school diaries?
Newsletter
In the current economic climate, we are constantly trying to find ways of cutting costs which do not affect your child’s learning. Also, we are aware that it is important to be environmentally friendly. In view of this it has been suggested that we discontinue the ‘hard copy’ of our weekly newsletter. The newsletter is uploaded onto the school website each Thursday and can be viewed at any time for
your convenience. A hard copy would be available on request should anyone not have access to the internet. We would welcome your views on this suggestion and will take on board your opinions before a final decision is made.
Class of the week 20th October – 24th October
Well done to Mrs Stothard’s class who are class of the week with a level of 99.2%.
FABBS
Thank you for your donations so far. We are still in need of donations of chocolate items and bottles for our tombola. Your help would be much appreciated.
