Year 1

In Year 1 our topic is ‘Feathered Friends’ and we have been learning all about how to look after birds in the winter. We have been busy following instructions to make our own Fat Balls to hang around school and to put in our gardens.

Mr Walker from Wickeresly School has been helping us to learn all about Gymnastics in PE. We all worked really hard using our school values ‘Teamwork’ and ‘Perseverance’ to make letters, numbers and words out of our bodies! We have also been learning about travelling and balancing skills.

All that practising paid off! We performed our Nativity ‘Straw and Order’ last week and it was amazing! Since then we have been so busy making Christmas cards, sewing’s and clay pieces to bring home.

All the staff wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

We have been learning how to use the computer programme ‘Scratch’. We had to control a character by entering the correct amount of steps.

In our ‘Minion Madness’ topic we have been making minion potions. We have also visited Eureka, where we learnt about space, our body and many other exciting things.

In PE we have been learning a dance with Miss Sutton from Wickersley School and Sports College. Take a look at our moves!

This term the Year One children will be following a topic called ‘Minion Madness’.  In Literacy we will focus on newspaper articles, to report a ‘gloop gun’ crime. In Maths we will be learning about grouping in 2s, 5s and 10s, halves and quarters, place value, measurement and money all with a minion twist! In Science, we will be comparing materials on the basis of their physical properties and making some fantastic minion potions in our outdoor classroom. Our Art work will focus on sketching minions and we will look at the famous ‘Pixar’ animation for inspiration.

We are so busy practising our Christmas performance at the minute.

We have been busy making Christmas cards, calendars and even clay pieces just for you!

We cannot wait to show you 😉

Santa is on his way.
