Newsletter 8 – Spring Term 5th March
Happy Home Learning
We hope you have all enjoyed our special reading celebrations week. Discuss with your child all the different exciting books they have read this week, which one have they enjoyed the most? Can they draw a picture of their favourite story from the week?
Foundation 2 Homework
Literacy – It has been a very exciting week exploring all our reading opportunities to celebrate world book day. All the children have loved going to different classes of their choice, to listen to different stories. Ask your child which book they really enjoyed reading and to retell the story back to you. If they are very clever they could write a sentence about this story in their homework book. Please ensure your child writes the sounds they can hear themselves. (Do not worry about the correct spelling).
Phonics – Please continue to practise reading and writing all the sounds in your home school diary.
Number – This week we have been learning to solve problems involving halving. See if you can support your child to halve things at home. (e.g. buns, apples, pizza, bread). Talk to your child about equal amounts when things are halved and how many pieces they have when things are halved.
Year 1 Homework
Literacy – Can you find out two facts about your favourite dinosaur?
Numeracy – Can you write the number names to twenty? i.e. one, two…….
Year 2 Homework
Spellings – fastest, biggest, greatest, largest, what & when
Maths – Can you do some practical halving and quartering? You could make a sandwich or pizza to cut up. Can you halve/quarter an amount of objects? Can you find a third of an amount of objects?
Topic – If you haven’t already researched a sea creature of your choice please do so as you will need information and pictures for our non-fiction literacy work next week.
